A new research paper published by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) predicts that the $1.7 billion worth of blue spruce and peach saplings planted in 2021 will be valued at $1,100 per acre, an increase of $300 million from 2021.
Blue spruce will be more valuable than peach sapling in 2020, with the new price per acre of $1 for blue spruces at $100, while peach will be $1 per acre at $80.
The new study says the value of green saplings is estimated at $3,500 per acre.USDA predicts the value will increase as a result of the growth of citrus, avocado and grape varieties, with green sapling values expected to rise from $1 to $2 per acre in 2021.
The paper says that the growth in citrus trees has created an opportunity to harvest additional trees to increase the annual yield.
It says the planting of additional trees, especially those planted as late as 2021, will provide additional yield potential.
The USDA estimates that the value in 2021 of green tree savers is $3.5 billion, or $1 million per acre over 2021 values.
